How to Make Flatbread (No Eggs!)
This flatbread recipe is as easy as it gets—and surprisingly delicious. Simply mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and salt), stir in the wet ingredients (cold water and oil), and allow to rest for 10 minutes. Then divide into egg sized balls, roll out, and cook on an oiled pan or skillet.
The ProHowNow Way: Quick, Easy, and Tasty
The idea of making any sort of dough can be intimidating, but this recipe is super easy and yields a tasty result. The flatbread makes for a great side dish with your meal, or the perfect canvas for wraps and personal pizzas.
3 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons of salt
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 cup of ice water
If you don’t have olive oil, any cooking oil you have on hand should do the trick.
In a mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients together, then stir in the wet ingredients. The dough should be moist but not sticky or runny. If it’s sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour. If it’s too dry or clumpy, add 1 tablespoon of cold water at a time and stir until it’s the right consistency.
Let the dough rest for 10 minutes, then divide into 10 – 12 egg-sized balls. Lightly sprinkle flour over them to keep from sticking, and then roll them out with a rolling pin or press with your hands until they are circular shaped and about ¼” thick.
#ProHowNowTip: Make sure to also sprinkle some flour on whatever surface will be touching the dough balls when rolling them out, including your hands, rolling pin, and the countertop/cutting board.
Enjoy them fresh, use them as a base for a flatbread pizza, or stow them away to use later.
