How to Make Flatbread (No Eggs!)

The idea of making any sort of dough can be intimidating, but this recipe is super easy and yields a tasty result. The flatbread makes for a great side dish with your meal, or the perfect canvas for wraps and personal pizzas.


  • 3 cups of flour

  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of salt

  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1 cup of ice water

If you don’t have olive oil, any cooking oil you have on hand should do the trick.

In a mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients together, then stir in the wet ingredients. The dough should be moist but not sticky or runny. If it’s sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour. If it’s too dry or clumpy, add 1 tablespoon of cold water at a time and stir until it’s the right consistency.

Let the dough rest for 10 minutes, then divide into 10 – 12 egg-sized balls. Lightly sprinkle flour over them to keep from sticking, and then roll them out with a rolling pin or press with your hands until they are circular shaped and about ¼” thick.

#ProHowNowTip: Make sure to also sprinkle some flour on whatever surface will be touching the dough balls when rolling them out, including your hands, rolling pin, and the countertop/cutting board.

Cook the flatbread pieces in a well oiled frying pan or skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes, then flip and cook for 2 minutes longer.

Enjoy them fresh, use them as a base for a flatbread pizza, or stow them away to use later.
